Dotada d’una gran càrrega simbòlica, l’aigua expressa un món de sensacions profundament arrelades al subconscient col·lectiu. Les creences i costums mostren l’aigua com un element purificador, símbol de vida i de fertilitat. En altres casos, l’aigua s’associa a la mort, a l’oblit. Tot i que és el recurs més abundant del planeta, no és un recurs il·limitat: només el 3% de l’aigua és dolça, i d’aquesta, únicament l’1% està disponible per al consum. Les dificultats d’accés a fonts d’abastament d’aigua, el creixement demogràfic, el consum intensiu, la creixent variabilitat de les precipitacions o la contaminació, són factors que es conjuguen a molts llocs del món convertint l’aigua en un element estratègic per al progrés, el benestar o el desenvolupament sostenible.
Endowed with great symbolic significance, water expresses a world of sensations deeply rooted in the collective subconscious. Beliefs and customs depict water as a purifying element, a symbol of life and fertility. In other cases, water is associated with death, with oblivion. Although it is the most abundant resource on the planet, it is not an unlimited resource: only 3% of water is fresh, and of this, only 1% is available for consumption. Difficulties in accessing water sources, population growth, intensive consumption, increasing variability of precipitation, or pollution are factors that converge in many places around the world, turning water into a key element for progress, well-being, or sustainable development.
